STAGES

largest puppet stage
My largest stage, used for performances of "Pirates, Ahoy!". I need an area about 15' wide by 6' deep, & 7' tall.

large puppet stage
My second biggest stage, used for performances of "Friendly Forest Folktales", "The Elves and the Shoemaker", & "Brementown Musicians". I need an area about 9' wide by 5' deep to use the stage and lighting.

small puppet stage
My small stage, used for performances of "Sir George & the Dragon". I need an area about 4' wide by 4' deep, add 2' each side to add stage lighting.

small puppet stage
My small stage used in a home for birthday party shows. No back drop is used, and smaller lights are used for the stage. Area of about 3 1/2' wide by about 4' deep needed.

tabletop puppet stage
My table top stage, used for performances of "The Magic Rock" - the dinosaur show. This stage also uses a backdrop and a front panel stage area, so it requires more depth. I need an area about 9' deep and about 9' wide to use this stage and lighting. For outdoor performances and smaller spaces, I can eliminate the backdrop (as in the picture) so the stage area would require a depth of 6'.

SHOWS ON LOCATION

showing the puppets
After a puppet show, I always bring some of the puppets out to meet the audience for a show and tell session. This was at the Marlow, N.H. town hall.

Marlow N.H. town hall
I took this shot of the audience coming into my show in the Marlow, N.H. town hall, reputed to have the second best acoustics of any town hall in the state. It has a beautiful balcony.

Maxfield Parrish backdrop
My "George & the Dragon" show at the Plainfield, N.H. town hall, with a painted backdrop by Maxfield Parrish!

I did a workshop for the NH Council on the Arts at the SEE Museum in Manchester, N.H. On display were models the millyard and city hall, made entirely from Legos!

HOW DO THE PUPPETS WORK?

rod puppet
Drilling into the back of my butterfly puppet to insert a wood dowel. The puppet is held by the dowel, it is a "rod style" puppet from my Forest Folktales/ Hungry Caterpillar show.

caterpillar head
The head of my big, fully fed caterpillar puppet. This is a moving mouth hand puppet I made from "Muppet Fleece" for my "Forest Folktales/ Hungry Caterpillar" show. Scroll to the bottom of this page in the Gallery to see the finished caterpillar.

bunny puppet head
The rough head of my new bunny puppet for the "Forest Folktales/ Rabbit on the Moon" show. He will be a hand puppet.

bunny puppet head
The bunny head with eyes & nose.

mache heads The rough mache heads of 2 new puppets. The left will become the full time king in "Sir George & the Dragon". The right one will become "Mr. Moony" in the "Forest Folktales/ Rabbit on the Moon" show. Right now, the shoemaker puppet from the "Elves & the Shoemaker" show fills all the parts, but he's getting awfully tired.

mache head
The rough mache head of the future full time king in "Sir George & the Dragon", a bit more finished.

mache heads
The finished puppets: the full time king in "Sir George & the Dragon" on the left, and "Mr. Moony" from the "Forest Folktales/ Rabbit on the Moon" show on the right.

Left photo: three phases of heads for puppets in the new show, "Pirates, Ahoy"! Lower right is masking tape over a shaped styrofoam ball on a cardboard tube. Upper left it is covered with foam. Upper right is a finished head, a character in the "Ocean Born Mary" story. In the right photo: two finished pirates.
